When I read about toxins in pads and tampons, I decided I wanted to (finally) make the switch to period underwear, and Saalt and Thinx were the first brands I tried. I wanted to try both to make sure they checked all my boxes: comfort, absorbency, safety, and style.
Here’s what happened when I put them to the test:

Comfort: Saalt takes the cake

Both Thinx and Saalt have comfy options, but Saalt’s Seamless and Comfort Collections absolutely take the cake for me.

Their Comfort Collection is made of a soft modal that I can only describe as buttery. It feels exactly like the fabric you’d expect to feel in a pajama set.

Saalt’s Seamless Collection also feels soft to the touch and lays just right. You know how you want your seamless underwear to ride the line of holding you in in all the right places, but not feeling too tight? Saalt Seamless does just that — the fact that it’s leakproof feels like an added bonus.

Absorbency: I wore Saalt for 12+ hours

While both brands offer various levels of absorbency, the highest level of absorbency I could find from Thinx held 3 pads worth of flow, while Saalt’s super absorbency pairs held up to 6 pads worth of flow — yet I found it to feel thinner and less bulky. While I preferred the absorbency and feeling of Saalt, luckily, I didn’t experience leaks with either brand.

Safety: Both brands are great

A huge reason I moved away from pads was because I wanted to be sure I wasn’t using a product with hidden toxins or chemicals. Both Thinx and Saalt Wear are made with OEKO-TEX certified fabrics and that aren’t treated with PFAS — and they share test results openly, which gives me peace of mind.

Style: I prefer Saalt

Both brands offer a range of styles and colors, but for me, Saalt’s styles felt more sleek and modern — they felt like underwear I wanted to wear everyday, not just on my period. Plus, I have to give a shout out to their collaboration with Hanky Panky.

As a years-long Hanky Panky fan, I was ecstatic to see that they’d partnered with Saalt on a leakproof version of their Signature Lace styles using Saalt’s absorbent technology — truly the best of both worlds!

Lacy meets leakproof

Saalt and Hanky Panky spent a year collaborating on the perfect pairing of lace and absorbent technology to build Hanky Panky’s first-ever confidence panty.

Overall, both Saalt and Thinx are great options if you’re looking to ditch disposables — but when it comes to comfort, absorbency, safety, and style, Saalt Wear is my pick.

Saalt Wear leakproof underwear is made with moisture-separating gusset technology that wicks away wetness to leave your skin feeling drier longer; the magic of our tech is in the weave of our gusset cloth. Our thin, but highly absorbent inner layer absorbs up to 3x its weight in liquid and traps moisture beneath the first layer until it’s time to wash. This patented combination means Saalt Wear is thinner, drier, and more comfortable than other period care options on the market.
