How Saalt Is Helping Vulnerable Communities During the Pandemic

Date: November 10th, 2020

Masks are everywhere, except where they’re needed most. Let’s change that.

As a B Corp, our mission is to empower and equip people to improve lives everywhere. When our impact partners shared with us stories of how the pandemic was affecting the people they served in marginalized communities, we felt we could do more to help. How? Use our supply chain to get high-quality masks into the hands of more people of those in need.

Introducing our new Saalt Equality Masks

During the remainder of 2020, with every ethically-made mask purchased, we’ll donate a second mask to our partner organizations that serve marginalized communities around the world and here in the United States to offer needed protection to all members of our Saalt community. Masks will be donated to Women in Training, I Support the Girls, FIMRC, Every Mother Counts, and Project Stree.

Why It Matters

Low-income areas across the world have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19, largely due to the lack of accessible healthcare, housing segregation, and the need for essential workers. The pandemic has overburdened healthcare and social systems, and the data shows that impoverished communities are affected at a higher rate. Low-income communities are more likely to be exposed to the virus, have higher mortality rates, and suffer economically. In times of economic crisis, these vulnerabilities will be more pronounced for marginal groups – identified by race, gender, and immigration status.

What makes our masks unique?

While our masks have all the bells and whistles of other masks (2-ply fabric, wire top frame, and adjustable ear straps), what really makes them unique is the Swiss-made V-Block treatment built into the product which provides anti-odor protection for the product and makes it microbe-resistant. While it's best to always wash the mask thoroughly after each use, that may not always be possible for people with little access to water. These masks will help people in compromised situations stay safer and healthier, and with your help, we can distribute them to people across the world. From fabric to finishes, they also support the ethical sourcing and manufacturing processes. Our ethically-made masks are made in a renowned factory that provides housing, medical care, safe water, and college scholarships for their seamstresses and workers.

We hope to spread awareness to those affected and need your help to pass the Saalt. With every mask purchased you can help get necessary protection to individuals in need across the globe. Together we can make a difference.

This mask donation is taking place during November and December 2020. If you want to learn more about Saalt's current impact initiatives, visit our Impact page.
