We’ve been talking a lot about plastic lately, and for good reason! It’s a big issue. One that we know our customers care deeply about, and one that we are committed to helping solve by improving periods. As the world joins in the global movement of Plastic Free July, there’s no better time to make the switch than now!
When caring for our period, it’s easy to overlook the impact of the plastics we’re tossing in the garbage bin. A thin wrapper here and a tiny plastic tube there couldn’t really add up to that much, right? Well, over a lifetime, that’s a hefty pile of plastic. Collectively, the impact is hard to even grasp. In North America alone, close to 20 billion sanitary napkins, tampons, and applicators are dumped into our oceans and landfills every year.
But, we get it. Having a plastic free period can be a financial commitment for some, and requires a bit more than your monthly period budget up front. Think of it this way—the average person who menstruates spends about $4,800 on pads and tampons in a lifetime. Switching to a menstrual cup, menstrual disc or period underwear could bring that cost from thousands down to a few hundred over a lifetime.
So, as you pack your purse with reusable cutlery and straws, snag a few more reusable grocery bags for your stash, and click buy on those eco-friendly makeup pads, consider giving your period the upgrade you and the planet deserve.
