I just started yesterday and my mind is blown. So comfortable, easy to use, and it doesn’t interfere with my active lifestyle whatsoever. I’m so bummed I didn’t give it a chance sooner. This is truly what period freedom feels like!

This was my first time buying and using a period cup. I am obsessed. Love that you can wear it all day long and so much more sustainable than tampons. So glad I decided to try! Thanks Saalt.

FAQs

I'm hearing buzz about lead in tampons. Are cups/discs safe?

We've also heard the scary news about toxic heavy metals found in tampons and we are here to assure you that our Saalt Cups and Discs are made of 100% medical-grade silicone that is BPA- and latex-free, non-toxic, and does not contain metals. They have been tested to ensure biocompatibility. Our cups don't contain harmful dyes but are rather colored with pigmented silicone. They have been tested and certified for cytotoxicity and skin sensitization per rigorous FDA testing standards so they are biocompatible and hypoallergenic, and because silicone is set in a permanent bond, it cannot melt and nothing can ever leach out. Further, to ensure that our cups do not leach any substance into the body, we have put our cups through third-party testing to ensure consumer safety and we’re happy to say our cups pass the test!

What are cups and discs made of?

Saalt Cups and Discs are remarkably simple solutions for period care. They’re made from only two ingredients, medical-grade silicone and FDA-tested silicone dye, both of which have been tested for skin sensitization, cytotoxicity, and biocompatibility. Silicone is a remarkable material; naturally safe, inherently bio-compatible, and it forms a permanent chemical bond called a thermoset when it is molded. So it cannot ever melt or leach out any dye, and since there are no other chemicals or BPA or latex used in the manufacturing process, it's super safe.

How does a menstrual cup work?

A menstrual Cup is a reusable cup that is worn internally like a tampon, but collects—rather than absorbs—your menstrual flow. Saalt Cups are made of soft 100% medical-grade silicone which is naturally odorless, biocompatible, and non-toxic. Menstrual cups are a healthy and sustainable alternative to pads and tampons. Because Saalt Cups have a capacity 2–4 times that of a regular tampon, you can wear it for up to 12 hours before emptying. Yes, that means you only have to change it twice a day and can sleep with it in. Once inserted, Saalt’s flexible design molds to your internal shape so you can comfortably wear it to hike, swim, or fly to Bora Bora.

How do menstrual discs work?

A menstrual disc is worn internally like a tampon but collects—rather than absorbs—your menstrual flow. The Saalt Disc is a reusable menstrual disc made of soft silicone that is naturally odorless, biocompatible, and a healthy and sustainable alternative to pads and tampons. Because the Saalt Disc has a capacity 4–6 times that of a regular tampon, you can wear it for up to 12 hours before emptying. Yes, that means you may only have to change it twice a day and can sleep with it in. Unlike period cups, the disc does not require suction to stay in place. Rather, it is held in place by its rim in the vaginal fornix (aka the space around the cervix) so you can comfortably hike, swim, and even have sex with your disc inserted.*

* A Saalt Disc will not prevent pregnancy or protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
