California's New Law Bans Toxic Chemicals in Pads and Tampons

California's New Law Bans Toxic Chemicals in Pads and Tampons

Okay, so have you heard about California's new law banning those toxic chemicals in tampons? It’s a pretty big deal as nothing like this has ever happened before! California Governor, Gavin Newsom, just signed it, and it feels like it's about time. (Sorry not sorry.) This move, led by Assemblymember Diane Papan, shows that women's health is finally getting some attention. But honestly, while we celebrate this win, it's important we continue to chat about the bigger picture.

Tired of the Same Old Story

First off, it feels a little exhausting, right? For several months now, and since the Berkeley study, we’ve been hearing about toxic metals in tampons and pads. It’s not shocking news anymore; it just feels like another reminder of how women’s health has been put on the back burner for way too long. Seriously, it’s 2024, and it’s only now that we’re seeing studies about the safety of menstrual products.

And let’s not forget about the disproportionate funding that goes to health issues affecting men compared to those affecting women. Did you know that there have been 60 clinical trials on Viagra, but only recently did anyone think to check if our tampons are safe? It’s wild!

Finding Better Options Together

So, what do we do? We look for better alternatives and keep the conversations going. Brands like Saalt are making period cups, menstrual discs, and period panties that are not only safer for our bodies, but better for the planet too. It’s so important that we know our options and can choose products that actually care about our health.

At Saalt, we’re all about being transparent about what goes into our products and ensuring they’re free from harmful stuff. We want to make sure you feel empowered to choose what’s best for you. Saalt cups and discs are made from medical-grade silicone and Saalt period underwear is made using fabrics not treated with PFAS. All Saalt products go through rigorous testing to ensure product safety. Did we mention Saalt is a B-Corp too? This means Saalt is held at a higher standard than other menstrual product brands for social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. Not only does Saalt talk the talk, we are accountable to walk the walk.

Let’s Be Informed

The law in California is a solid step forward for women's health, but we need to keep pushing for more. It's okay to continue demanding:

  • Transparency from all brands about what’s in our menstrual products. No more sneaky ingredients!
  • More research funding focused on women’s health--it deserves attention.
  • Education about all the great options out there, so you know what’s best for your body.

Together, We Can Make a Change

Honestly, it’s okay for all of us to feel somewhat exhausted by these conversations. But keeping the conversation going build's empowerment and change (thanks Governor Newsom!). We all deserve products that are safe and effective—we don't have to settle for less. Keep the conversation going, support each other, and make your voice heard. 📢
